The Wall Street Journal reported that Chrysler Group's U.S. auto sales rose 37 percent in December, capping "a strong recovery" last year. Chrysler is benefiting from a far reaching overhaul of its model line that Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne pushed through in 2010, the Wall Street Journal wrote.

After driving a variety of 2012 Fiat 500s over hundreds of miles, USA Today’s automotive expert James Healey had plenty of accolades for the city car, calling the Fiat 500 “a sweet contribution to the small-car universe.”

The USA Today review calls out a variety of Fiat 500 “high points,” including an engaging appearance, responsive drive-train, adjustable personality, and front-seat comfort.
Healey notes that the 500 is “almost impossibly stylish, available in an array of unmatched hues” and is “graced with a small-displacement, advanced technology engine that loves to run hard and doesn’t use a lot of fuel doing so.”

The review also noted that the Fiat 500 is easy to enter and exit, and that the well-positioned seats make it easy to forget you’re in a car smaller than a Mini Cooper.

Healey also wrote that the Fiat 500’s small four-cylinder engine is rated just 101 horse-power “but loves to give it all to you, revving quickly and growl-ing like a small dog that thinks it’s an attack mutt.”

With gas prices on the rise and CAFE regulations requiring higher fuel economy getting ever closer, every automaker is out to prove the worth of its hybrids with a hypermiling challenge. Hyundai, with the help of professional driver and hypermiler extraordinare Wayne Gerdes, just completed such a challenge by driving the 2011 Sonata Hybrid across the U.S. on two tanks of fuel.

Gerdes started in San Diego and drove to Jekyll Island, Georgia, a trek of almost 2300 miles, stopping only once for gas. The single fuel stop occurred more than 1200 miles into the trip — far eclipsing the Sonata Hybrid’s official range of 700 highway miles as estimated by the EPA. After finishing the second leg of the trip, Gerdes had roughly 2.5 gallons of fuel left in the tank. In total, Gerdes used a mere 38 gallons of gas to cross the country and averaged 60 mpg.

Hyundai’s fuel economy challenge was completed yesterday as Gerdes rolled into Georgia after traversing mountains, valleys, deserts, and braving the occasional thunder and snow storm. This particular fuel economy challenge was unique in that it was a true point-to-point drive across the country rather than a planned loop. Given this information, the drive is more strenuous than most owners would likely undertake, indicating that they could see even better fuel economy if they use Gerdes’ techniques.

“As a fan of fuel-efficient vehicles, I enjoy the challenge of putting new technology to the test,” said Gerdes after finishing the 2300 mile drive. “This demonstration shows how the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid can deliver extremely impressive fuel economy and range for drivers who value fuel savings.”

“This is the first time I’ve driven a car that ‘does it right!’” concluded Gerdes.

Hyundai’s 2011 Sonata Hybrid goes on sale later this month at a starting price of $26,545 including destination.

This year’s annual Christmas party was held Tuesday, December 21, 2010 beginning at 7:00 P.M. This annual get together is for the employees of Deskins Motors as well as their families. This year many employees with their families attended, and everyone had a jolly good time.

Not only was there a variety of delicious holiday foods, but we also played games, and we gave away several nice prizes. Some of the prizes included a 32” LCD Television, a surround sound system for home entertainment, DVD player, and many gift cards. Are you equipped enough to drive in snow conditions?

It is always important to read the owner's manual that comes with your car, and follow proper winterizing suggestions that involve the battery, lights, defroster, heater, motor oil, antifreeze, wiper blades, windshield washer fluid, tire pressure, brakes and brake fluid, belt, hoses, and filters.

If you must drive in snowy conditions, make sure your car is prepared, and that you know how to handle road conditions. I found some very good tips listed in the FEMA’s website that I would like to share with you.

Check or have a mechanic check the following items on your car:

Antifreeze levels - ensure they are sufficient to avoid freezing.
Battery and ignition system - should be in top condition and battery terminals should be clean.
Brakes - check for wear and fluid levels.
Exhaust system - check for leaks and crimped pipes and repair or replace as necessary. Carbon monoxide is deadly and usually gives no warning.
Fuel and air filters - replace and keep water out of the system by using additives and maintaining a full tank of gas.
Heater and defroster - ensure they work properly.
Lights and flashing hazard lights - check for serviceability.
Oil - check for level and weight. Heavier oils congeal more at low temperatures and do not lubricate as well.
Thermostat - ensure it works properly.
Windshield wiper equipment - repair any problems and maintain proper washer fluid level.

Install good winter tires. Make sure the tires have adequate tread. All-weather radials are usually adequate for most winter conditions. However, some jurisdictions require that to drive on their roads, vehicles must be equipped with chains or snow tires with studs.
Maintain at least a half tank of gas during the winter season.
Place a winter emergency kit in each car that includes:

a shovel
windshield scraper and small broom
flashlight
battery powered radio
extra batteries
water
snack food
matches
extra hats, socks and mittens
First aid kit with pocket knife
Necessary medications
blanket(s)
tow chain or rope
road salt and sand
booster cables
emergency flares
fluorescent distress flag

The all-new 2011 Hyundai Sonata has been named one of the "10Best Cars for 2011 "by Car and Driver, the world's largest automotive enthusiast publication. This marks the first time a Hyundai product has received the sought-after recognition by the editors of Car and Driver.

Earlier this year Hyundai has taken the wraps off the new 2011 Hyundai Elantra at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The new Elantra is among the emerging class of small gas-powered cars that achieve better than 40 mpg on the highway.

The Elantra is capable of hitting 40 Miles per gallon, thanks to an efficient 148 horsepower 1.8-liter engine and significant aerodynamic upgrades. Through the years Deskins Motors Company has been a forerunner in the car industry by specializing in multiple services to meet the needs of its customers. These services include but not limited to selling new and used cars, financing and servicing the products we sell.
